Workplace burnout is at a six year high—discover workplace burnout solutions leaders and teams can use now to reduce burnout, improve mental health, and increase productivity.

Ask yourself, ask a co-worker, ask a friend/loved one and the answer to burnout at work is often yes!

We’re years post-pandemic, but people are feeling the stress of burnout and the toll on individuals is huge. Stress, a feeling of not belonging, mental, emotional and physical fatigue are commonplace.

From high workloads and stress to a lack of workplace balance. Job insecurity to financial stress and searching for other work options.

Key Burnout Statistics

According to recent surveys and reports, employee burnout rates are at an alarmingly high level:

• 66%: of employees’ report experiencing burnout.

• 50%: of Gen Z employees (aged 18-25) are burned out.

• 79%: of full-time workers report burnout.

• 44%: of employees feel emotionally drained at the end of the workday.

• 35%: of employees feel excited about their work.

What’s Driving Employee Burnout Now?

It’s easy to place blame on companies, but individuals must look inward too.
Why are you burned out? Do you have options i.e. Discussing with your supervisor, taking on a different role within your organization? Or, do you need to refocus on yourself, your sleep patterns, exercise, what you are eating and who you’re engaged with at work?

The impact of burnout for companies is real too. From decreased productivity and collaboration to more sick days. Increased turnover and more monies spent on healthcare.

In my keynotes and training I am quick to mention that providing support for mental health and wellness is essential. Offering flexible, hybrid, non-linear work arrangements, investing in employee training and development (conferences), and fostering a positive and supportive work environment from top to bottom.

“Workplace burnout is rising for a whole host of reasons,” said Ron Goetzel, senior scientist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Among these, are the increased demands of 21st – century jobs and toxic workplace cultures that offer less flexibility.

Plus, I am told by many conference attendees that the use of AI, while interesting in its capabilities is also a distraction. Yes, it can grow productivity but is also taking the “human aspect” out of jobs.

Individual Workplace Burnout Solutions You Can Use Today

Thankfully, there are strategies that individuals can take and by themselves or in combination can have a positive impact on reducing burnout,

• Prioritize self-care: Ensure you get adequate sleep, eat nutritious meals, and engage in physical activity.

• Cultivate a life outside of work: Pursue hobbies and spend time with friends and loved ones to maintain a well-rounded identity.
