Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and You

While reading this, I’d ask you to keep in mind three things as I break down what Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are going to look like in the near future – in simple language that even I can understand.

1- This is for you and will directly affect your professional and personal life.

2- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are mind-bogglingly cool!

3- I am not an expert on the topic, but I’ve been studying and learning about what is in store for us and wanted to share a few things that you may not be aware of.

AI and Decision Making

Decisions, decisions, decisions, AI has been pushed to the forefront of executives’ decision-making and strategic growth planning. From precise sales data and assisting executives in making well-informed strategic decisions to spotting patterns in sales data that humans may not see. From forecasting customer turnover ratios and analysis to allowing organizations to take proactive measures to avoid losses. This is a huge and will save companies money and grow business at the same time as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning grow in leaps and bounds every year.

Machine learning will not make developers and programmers obsolete, but it will change the way they work. In essence, we are giving computers the capability to learn without being explicitly programmed. That is nice, but what if it gets out of control and the MACHINES take over? Not to worry, we’ve got that covered. I hope. I will explain more in a few paragraphs.

According to InfoWorld, the latest report from tech hiring specialist Hired shows that interview requests for software engineers doubled in 2021, with remote roles accounting for a growing proportion of roles. That’s good news.

And, as machines learn from experience, like chess-playing computers and self-driving cars, AI can write better and outperforms what is written by humans. Nice, but watch out teachers and professors. That A+ paper may not come from your student, but from a machine!

AI in Healthcare

AI in health care is growing. Already being used in radiology and pathology, AI is growing strong in the fertility field too. It is now viewed as a legit, evidence-based, and maturing technology that may help healthcare professionals provide better care to patients. This will help countless numbers of families and prospective parents.

AI, ML, & Data Quality

AI & ML will improve data quality. This means that technology on the whole is going to grow big time and wow us with advancements in engineering, computing, medicine, architecture, agriculture and much more. Plus, businesses will be able to save money and make better moves with information they receive.

  • According to Signal AI, 96% of business leaders believe they can improve their business decision-making process.
  • 80% of leaders feel they have too much data to weigh when making decisions.
  • 63% of business leaders spend upwards of 40 hours a week exclusively on making decisions.
  • 69% leaders named data as the biggest influence on your business decisions, above instinct.

The topic of Artificial Intelligence is often debated by researchers worldwide. In the next decade, the effects of AI will intensify, as virtually every field of business will need to rethink its core processes and decision-making methods for business management. I believe that this will lead to spirited debate and challenges from employees as the learning curve grows and AI/ML continue to grow in popularity and acceptance.

From speaking into your phone and getting accurate transcription of your words to automated cars and playing music in your home without lifting a finger and advanced robotics at home and work, AI and ML is only going to advance.

Artificial Intelligence Careers

Lastly, according to Ziprecruiter.com, the outlook for artificial intelligence careers is excellent, citing United States Bureau of Labor Statistics who are predicting a 13 percent jump in computer-related occupations between 2016 and 2026. There are many well-paying opportunities in the U.S. and beyond. Perhaps it’s time for some of us to consider making a career choice or career shift!
